Behold the Gigantosaurus! lol One of many animatronic dinosaurs at the temporary Minnesota Zoo exhibit.
It's name means “giant southern lizard” because it was one of the largest dinosaurs found in South America.
Giganotosaurus was even larger than the more famous T. Rex. Giganotosaurus and T. Rex did not live at the same – they were separated by 30 million years.
What They Ate: Carnivore (meat eater), who used its eight-inch long serrated teeth to prey on large plant eater dinosaurs.
Where Fossils Have Been Found In North America: Giganotosaurus fossils have been discovered in Argentina, but not in North America.
What They Did: Giganotosaurus is thought to have been an opportunistic hunter, probably picking off sick, young or elderly dinosaurs—although the ”premier predator” of its time, it could have taken its choice of prey.
How They Are Doing: Extinct. Lived in the Cretaceous Period, 100-90 million years ago.
