Out Into the Great Valley-World Map Theme- ~RPG Project~
Info: Here's a song I've had laying around on my computer for about half a year and a week ago I FINALLY thought of a way to end it and fill out some empty space within the piece! I think I've found the instruments and sounds that are making my soundtrack sound unique instead of a melting pot of weird sounds. The acoustic drums, distorted violin, and a few melodic motifs I've found myself using for at least 4 songs now (see if you can spot them =p)
In this particular piece, I wanted everything to harmonically "hum" together. All the layers, lead, chords, bass, counter melody, I didn't want barely any dissonance going on here, NONE >=<
Oh and yes, this is my first area theme so...YAY! =p.

Christ! XD This is amazing! It takes me to that era when RPGs instilled a sense of wonder in me... I used to really live on this games until about the PS2 era... suddenly, the magic was gone. I'd like to think, if those games still 'felt' the same now as they did then, they'd sound like this song. ♪
OMG, thank you so much! I was just trying to make a song a decent song with some RPG charm. Very stoked you enjoyed it so much ^^
That's very true, the SNES and PSX had this renaissance of amazing RPGs that were filled to the brim with creativity and originality! Chrono Trigger/Cross, FF IV-X (I think FFX was the very last old school epic RPG that followed the classics, Persona series does a great job but can't compare), Luia 2, Mario RPG, basically if you tossed a stone at the PSX library, you'll probably hit a RPG classic XD
I've seen some attempts to bring that epic amazing feel of the grand RPG like Lost Odyssey, FF XIII, Mass Effect and Skyrim and even though they all have their own great qualities, them seem to lack either the magic, charm or characters from the classic JRPGs. Maybe they'll come back someday, at least I can look foward to FFX HD, I'll definitely sink 100+ hours in that =p
Thanks for the awesome comment! ^_^

The DS seemed like a good place for magical JRPGs, but I can only think of one for the life of me -- given it was one of the best RPGs I've played. It's called Radiant Historia, if you have a DS or emulator or something. You're right about the magic and charm being less nowadays, though. I'm really glad to know I'm not the only one who feels this way. FFX HD, eh? I might just have to get that! :D ...Still waiting on them to redo Final Fantasy six. That was THE ONE♥ ...doubt they ever will give it the FFIV treatment, though.
Wow, that RPG you mentioned is REALLY good! Getting a cool Chrono Trigger vibe with this one!
Another JRPG you might be interested in is Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Queen.
Studio Ghibli animated, wrote the story, and composed the music for the game! I'll be very interested what the folks behind Princess Mononoke can do with the video game medium (They have a game company called Level-5 to help with the programming and battle system).
