Here's what I've done with it up until tonight.
The picture is at a little bit of a strange angle- but its gotten too dark to take a better picture now. I had to levels the heck out of this one as was.
I've added the Chinese characters to the signs - I looked up specific characters for specific meanings - I hope I got them right. The sign on the window on the store to the left should say "Happy New Year", with a rat on it, because '08 is the year of the rat... The sign above the store should say clothing store... and the big vertical sign attached to the building should say Jade Tiger. The awning on the left entering the little courtyard should say Beautiful Divine City, and the sign above the double doors that the wolf guy is walking into should say High Mountain Dim Sum.. The sign on the building on the right should say Bright Dragon Inn. I put the Tiger locale across the street from the Dragon locale - as I read that in Chinese lore, the tiger and the dragon are competitive with one another.
I added a kitty in the window on the 2nd floor of the clothing store - I wanted to indicate some open windows, because open windows bring in luck for the new year.
I've done some adjustments to the hotel's awning - shortened the front of it, and moved the angle of the back part of it up to be more parallel with the other lines on the building.
I've also added tiles to the gate roof, and detailed the fish. I've indicated scales on the dragon, and the cobblestone street...
I'm going to leave this alone for a few days now - and ask for critiques, and work on some other commissions that need my attention. Then I'll come back to this.

Thank you =D Thats quite a compliment.
This reminds me of Farewell to Earth, also. I wanted to do something with the same scope as that image - but incorporate some more things I've learned lately - and some things I've been working on improving upon (basically the architecture. I love cityscapes and I want to get good at them)

This is nuts! This is great! Very nice job so far.
I can't help but think, it just needs MORE figures. People of epic proportions. Every Chinese New Year I've been too has always been PACKED, and this still feels a little sparse, for being a parade! You've already got the hardest parts down, now it's just a matter of really challenging yourself that extra step, or two or three!

Holy shit, every time I look at this it looks more and more amazing. ^^() It really will be epic!
I kinda disagree about the need for more figures- maybe a few more if you think you can fit them in, but everyone has so much energy and personality and I feel like drawing more people in just to fill space will kinda detract from that. Just my opinion, though; take with a grain of salt.

Ok, I've tried to think of a delicate way to lay this out without profanity.. and I've failed miserably...
THIS! ..this is so fuckin' ASTOUNDING! I mean...
Ok, yeah, you can add colour and such and likely make something that'll blow socks off for fourteen AU's...
But... holy SHIT! Normally I'd comment this this was an " ** Insta-Fav!! ** ™ ", but that SO doesn't do justice to this piece!
You wanna see what people REALLY think? Let this go for a while and open it up for folks to colour it themselves with everyone posting it on the same day.. NOT as a contest, per say.. as a Show Off!
Seriously! this is such an amazing piece... (=Exact Specifications Of Speechlessness truncated to Prevent Uncomfortableness=)

I really enjoy watching in the progress of this art, and I'm very glad to see a great artist like you would like to try Chinese style art, which Chinese people are not interested in drawing these years...^^;
I'm Chinese and I'd love to help you with those Chinese charaters. (If it's not too late)
"Bright Dragon Inn" should be "光之龍客棧" (I don't know if you could see the Chinese words or not, if you can't I will show pics for you)
"Beautiful Divine City" should be "華天城" , "Jade Tiger" should be "玉虎", "clothing store" should be "服飾店"
I think that will be purfect and more local-ized if you could change these words. ^^;
Anyway, can't wait to see your next art.

AWESOME! Incredible work. When I first saw the femme dancing the dragon's head, I thought it was Candi the Red Panda. I don't see her anywhere. She would be so very appropriate, being Chinese herself. (Besides, I love red pandas.)
Wish I could afford to go to FC. Wish I had the money to buy this. *sigh*
I can't wait to see the final version. :o

Candi is in there - she's with Antarctica - looking at the camera while Antarctica takes a picture =).
The girl dancing with the head of the dragon is Echo the genet =) I chose Echo because she is the character I most frequently depict in asian attire/settings (Chinese and Japanese)

I enjoy how your posting the progress of this art like you did with the sword in the rain picture. It is quite enjoyable to see a work of art slowly come into focus and the story of each of the people in it unfold in my mind as I read the emotions you put into each person on the street. The only thing I notice is all the lanterns are round and I didn't know if that was before you fleshed them out into the acordien style ones that seem to be often used in the festivals that feature the dancing dragons.
