Linux cannot do a lot of things. Support for peripherals is very low. You have to find someone to write drivers for them, often.

OS X can run on PCs, but needs hacking. Linux is a free open source operating system, so drivers are obtained from the Linux community. There are Linux versions of things like VLC, Adobe Flash and Shockwave, Real PLayer, etc.

There are a lot of drivers, yes. But there are still many missing.

I recall reading an article from a Linux Guru who was complaining right and left how his Windows computer would not work very well with the hotel's WiFi. Of course, at the beginning of the article, he mentions off hand that his Linux computer would not work with it AT ALL!! That did not stop him from bashing Windows for doing poorly what Linux would not do at all.

And the key to your comment about OS X is the word "hacking". If you can hack, you can get any operating system to do anything. That isn't the point. The point is, you can only run OS X on an Apple machine, unless you turn back flips.

I did not have problems with WiFi under Ubuntu Linux on my 2010 MacBook. In short, I advocate operating systems that are the smallest targets for the script kiddies.

Windows can cost less than 1500$ while providing all the same performance and specs as a mac, and is far more user friendly than linux, especially to us who arent all that great with computers. But i guess garage band is fun.

Oh and proper driver performance. Yes, there are open source and binary blob alternatives, but very few of them have the same performance as native Windows drivers by the manufacturer.
