You may not see the whole engine in this photo but as I've explained, I cleaned it the morning I took the photo as well as doing a third man turn the very same day. The engine itself is an Austerity 0-6-0ST built by the Hunslet Engine Co., Leeds in 1952. These engines were introduced in 1943 to run on low-grade coal and badly-maintained track. Although that was the case, Hunslet thought they should stop building these engines when WW2 ended in 1945 but they were so successful that they kept building them until 1964!
And what's in a name? - You may ask? Colonel Holman Frederick Stephens (1868 - 1931) was the founder of the Kent & East Sussex Railway as well as many other light railways including the East Kent Railway and the Weston, Clevedon & Portishead Railway.

what i find amazing is that steam power was still being manufactured in britain in the 60s (and even into the 70s in china), when, where i live, all steam power had been stored serviceable by 1955, and scrapped utterly, save for the odd loco here and there, abondon in place, or rescued by preservationists, by 1957.
