Short answer... yes :3

He turns them into living thick ink, imagine the ink as a gooish hybrid of sort that is able to suppress the victims mind as more of it is covered. The body is turned into more ink and the soul is captured within the layer of thick goop that covers it, it keeps the ink alive. After being drawn the ink takes up the shape of the artists thoughts or in case if the said soul of the victim is used in the picture the ink will take up the shape of the victims thoughts which is usually their old shape. They look normal, they feel normal, except that they are a lot more soft to the touch and half solid.

I think I will make up a ref for the Artist some day soon to explain how exactly it works.
