This is one of many sets of ridiculously-steep stairs on the USS Iowa. Everyone in my group and every visitor we met found them EXTREMELY disconcerting to climb. They're not only very steep and tall, but hard to hang onto, and impossible to ascend or (especially) descend quickly.
Even so, they're the only practical means by which to move between different decks on the Iowa, so visitors should expect to do some serious climbing.
