I finally did it! I wrote a song for one of the chapters of my Create Your Own Adventure game!
This takes place in chapter eight.
He climbed out of the tram and crossed to the waiting lift. Man, this docking bay was HUGE! Maybe half a mile by a quarter of a mile by another quarter of a mile...what WAS this place? The lift brought him to a sort of flight control bridge. There were dozens of consoles for monitoring flight and anything pertaining to it. Maybe they could tell him more about what happened. He logged into one and found some recordings from the external cameras. They were maybe only a few hours old. They showed what was supposed to be a training exercise for the small fighters. But the recordings told more. They started out as would be expected, but soon things got scary. One group started having engine trouble, one group's climate control went haywire, two groups lost navigation and steering...the final group's life support shut down. The recording continued. It was terrible. Finally, the lead pilot was shouting, begging for mercy from some nonexistent being when the cockpit opened, jettisoning him into the vacuum. That was the worst of them all...In space, nobody can hear you scream...
He thought he had seen it all, but another file caught his eye. He opened it and it began playing immediately. It showed an immense battle cruiser just outside the port of the docking bay. Surprisingly, it was much to big to fit into the already large bay. Instead, it scooted up beside it and extended a sealed clamp, latching on to the side of the space station. Right as it did, alarms began wailing behind him, and he realized that it wasn't a recording. It was live feed! He whirled around to look down at the floor of the bay. The cruiser had already begun unloading a whole army of robots like the one that had tried to kill him earlier. He bolted for the door to the lift, hoping to make a last-second escape, but a voice called his name and stopped him dead in his tracks.
"Chuck!" He crept back to the viewport and saw a gray-skinned being standing at the head of the army. "What?" he called back. "Come down here." responded the being. "Why?" he asked suspiciously. "The cavalry's here." He moved back out of view of the floor of the bay and readied his rifle. He heard the sound of the lift rising when suddenly the power cell on his gun jammed! He frantically tried to pry it loose to reset it, and finally it popped out and he slammed it into place, just as the door slid open. There stood the gray-skinned being. Chuck held his rifle in front of him, ready for just about anything. The being stepped forward and extended his hand. "Good to see you again!" he said cheerfully. "...wait, what?" Chuck was baffled. "Don't you remember me? The voice in your head? The old guy in the cabin? The black-market dealer in the tunnels? The guy in the rescue chopper? It's me, Chuck!" ...."Sweet Zombie Jeebus, it IS you!" He took the being's hand and shook it firmly. "Good to see you again too, you magnificent bastard."
I'd write more, but I feel that this is enough to spark your curiosity. If you want to find out what happens next, then why not give the game a try? Send me a note, shout, comment, anything!
