I have kinda tried ot sketch these in the past, but this is pretty close to what they look like. Kinda.. weasly.. with six limbs... very strong, very fast, huge fangs, bite can be poisonous, excellent night vision.
These take the place of horses in Sirius, to an extent. They are far more intelligent, almost beyond primate, but remain, for the most part, feral. They can be taught to do many, many things, and will work hard if they feel they get an equal exchange from the deal. If they feel like they are being used as mere beasts or are not getting what they want, they leave, or worse, kill their handler. It is rare for one to allow an handler to ride them, but if it respects the handler enough, it will allow it. They will do hard work that a handler cannot do themselves, but will not do things they feel the handler is perfectly capable of but is too lazy to do. They are viciously protective of children of ANY species. They are known for returning runaway or lost children before anyone even knows they have gone missing.
They are mischievous and playful, love fish and fresh meat, and have a fascination with anything that glows. Their noses are frequently scorched by lanterns until they learn better at a young age, and even older ones sometimes forget.
This is Luna, posing by a boy slink for size reference. Girls are a little larger, and have fuller tails that they can curl around their young to keep them warm, as slinks are indigenous to colder mountain regions, usually around lakes and streams where caves can be found, or created. Some will fashion simple lean-to style huts against rock faces if they are wandering in search of a family. They group in small single family groups, but those groups can be as large as thirty members, which can lead to some loud bantering in the mountains, as their hard, sharp claws clack and scrape loudly on rocks.
