WARNING: DESCRIPTION IS EXTREMELY LONG AND CONTAINS SPOILERS.
Alright, I honestly don't give a shit if Bronies hate me for what I am about to say, my reputation already isn't great because I drew Pumpkin Cake and The Pony Pets and apparently I am not allowed to do that because I like to draw dogs. So this isn't exactly going to ruin anything for me.
Whoo Boy, where do I start? First off, I DID in fact enjoy today's Pound Puppies episode. It had great conflict one could relate to, cute puppies as usual, and more. However, this episode was different than the other because of the whole 'Shoutout to bronies'. thing thanks to an article on Equestria Daily. Sorry if it was really predictable that I am making a post about this.
When 'The Pony Club' was first mentioned in the episode I seriously thought nothing of it because little girls talking about ponies in cartoons has been done already, (Dexter's Laboratory for example).
As the episode went on, I couldn't help but get the 'My Little Pony fandom' vibes from it and it didn't help that the main girl's (who's name escapes me at the moment) DAD was the one that was obsessed with ponies and not her. Since Bronies are well known for being males into something viewed as girly. He even had an entire room filled with pony stuff ( Pink Wallpaper, Pony pictures. Something that I would expect to see out of a parody) and tried to get his daughter to be in some club because he was part of a pony club.
Even though I loved the message at the end, ( It's ok to be fans of multiple things) I honestly couldn't tell if this was a jab at the pony fandom or if it was meant to represented Pound Puppies fans who also like Friendship is Magic, because it was just way too spot on, as least from my experience. But I honestly figured I was just looking WAY too deep into it and went on about my day after the episode ended thinking that it would never be bought up again.
UNTIL I came across a journal that linked the Equestria Daily article ( Since I don't go on Equestria Daily anymore) about how Pound Puppies was suddenly 'awesome' because it apparently 'Had shoutouts to My Little Pony and was pony filled' making it obvious they didn't watch the episode. Which I honestly can't fully blame them because not everyone has excess to TheHub channel and the episode isn't available on their website yet. I have only one thing to say-- If that was REALLY a shoutout to bronies, it was a pretty lousy one for these various reasons:
1. The entire conflict of the episode was "Ponies are getting in the way of our puppy adoption." The pony interest was viewed as more of a threat than it actually was a positive thing and I have never heard of any shoutouts that is the center threat to an episode.
2. The guest starring human girl was completely afraid that The Pony Club would kick her out if they found out that she liked puppies. The entire pony club was causing her more trouble than it was worth since she was having personal conflicts with her interests as well as other kids not wanting to associate themselves with her because they blamed her for not being able to adopt any puppies.
3. The dad was pretty much trying to shove his interests onto his daughter. Because he was part of the Pony Boys Club, she had to be part of Pony Girls Club. Lucky and Cookie still made faces at him oddly when they put two and two together and figured out he owned all of the pony merchandise that was seen in their apartment. The dad himself wasn't a complete jerk but his interests in ponies didn't seem like it was normal to the main characters unless I completely missed something.
3. The Pony girls AT FIRST were viewed as complete intolerant shallow bitches, we were led to believe that they didn't like anyone who liked something other than ponies and kicked out a girl in the group because she got a dog. Until it was revealed they didn't hate dogs, wouldn't have kicked her out, and only kicked the other girl out because she wouldn't shut up about her dog and had rude manners.
I am pretty sure there is more I am leaving out, but that is the stuff that stood out to me.
Despite that the episode pretty much said "It is perfectly ok to like Puppies and Ponies" and this could have been a complete coincidence ,I am honestly afraid of the potential shitstorm that is going to brew when Bronies actually take a look at this episode thinking the pony thing is 100% positive and it doesn't help that Equestria Daily is hyping it up.
I may be a fan of My Little pony despite not being as involved in the fandom as I used to be, I honestly don't think TheHub should be targeting the brony fandom anyway when it comes their other shows and letting the fandom completely influence their shows like they MUST throw in a pony or two in hopes that SOMEONE would give their other shows a chance. Which is going to be sad that people will only watch it constantly comparing it to something else despite being two completely different things. They already tried to get bronies to watch their shows by mentioning Tara Strong voiced Zipper ( Flat out saying same actor as Twilight Sparkle, even though Tara Strong voicing a cartoon character is about a surprising as hearing you get wet when you stand out in the rain. ) and saying the The Super Secret Pup Club is like the Cutie Mark Crusaders ( which I seriously think they aren't. ) on their facebook page. It doesn't help that The Carebears in their newest show uses phrases like 'Everybear' and 'anybear'. That might not be related to My Little Pony but it is still annoying regardless.
Though I think the fandom spamming ponies everywhere even when it's unrelated probably contributed to why I am annoyed whenever the hub puts ponies in anything else other than it's actual show.
Well, I could say more but I feel this description is already long enough. If you want to debate or ask questions about the whole thing fine, but KEEP IT CIVIL.

Ok, now I was seriously able to take the time and read it and all I can say is I have to see this episode to understand what is going on. To be honest I have no idea how the hell MLP became as popular as it is because some cartoons that follow a similar animation style and plot line and even some that take an apposite approach, I watch and I cannot get into it. The legend of kora, even transformers I could not bother to constantly follow them and I do not know why.
*sigh* Now, this is just my two cents, so don't think much about it,
But with the way this sounds... since MLP had became popular with the guys and girls, I think the Hub is trying its best to get people to become fans of other shows and shift their views there by bringing up things like that, TOTALLY disregarding how the fandom is or acts...
Or maybe they did take it into consideration, seeing how a lot of fans, not all of them, will attempt to make others like the show who don't really like it... So they're probably praising themselves for being annoying people trying to convert those who enjoy other things with such morals.
This is just an assumption, so... yeah, don't take up on what I said as true. I'm just another person on the internet.

This is quite an in depth analysis and look into the new episode in an interesting way (though I should probably have a look at it when/if it becomes available to get a better understanding).
However, the one thing I can definitely agree with without having to see the episode is that it is quite lame to suddenly like Pound Puppies just because the show makes a 'shout out' to Pony fans (especially since, as you said, it sounds like said person didn't even see the episode based on the details you provided).
It is true that the Pony Movement/Fandom has gained a lot of traction and has a lot of followers, I guess it is safe to say then that the greater the size of any fandom the greater chances of the fandom having larger quantities of idiots xD
The furry fandom is no different - though I do see your frustration, especially since you are a legitimate fan of the show, it seems awfully like the show is more or less a third wheel when compared to MLP.
In any case, I enjoyed the analysis, I find it interesting and it does make me want to see the next episode.

that description of the episode is not only extremely spot on but sounds like theyre also saying dont take things at face value. shitty rep to the public that seems deserving until you know more about it and the situations. also is spot on to many fandoms including this one.
:l but yeah when the shitstorm hits just ignore it. its better to be the silent majority as opposed to the vocal minority...which is why just about EVERYTHING/fandom has a horrible rep when you think about it.

God... This is really in depth. I read it all and it seems pretty weird that they are trying to compare this to MLP. I mean, I like MLP and Pound Puppies too, but neither of these shows are anywhere alike. So why they are making these exaggerated comparisons is beyond me.
Btw, I missed the new episode I am so mad! I really need to get back on track with watching new episodes.

i feel ya, i dont understand why people never give pound puppies a chance, its actually a really good show, almost as good as ponies in my opinion. and i watched that episode and sorta felt the same way you did, dont get me wrong im a proud brony but i also know that ponies isnt the only good show in existene and others should be given a chance.
