He likes to burn things/people. His favored method of dispatching prisoners/hostages/people he doesn't like is tossing them in a furnace. Alive.
Why?
WELL
Ay-ule (later shortened to Ayule) grew up on a mining planet ruled by the Irken Empire from the time he was a very small child. His father was killed for being a rebel; all Ay-ule inherited from him was the green scarf. He lived in slavery with his ailing mother and older brother. His family worked in a quarry, in a camp of vortian prisoners. His mother eventually became too weak to work, and stayed at home (home being their ghetto shack of a place). Ay-ule and his brother tried to keep her hidden away from the Irken guards. Useless workers weren't tolerated.
Unfortunately, Inevitably, they found her out. Ay-ule came home to find his mother missing. He knew what happened to injured/useless workers.
Furnace.
Needless to say...Ayule bears an almost uncontrolled hatred of any and all irkens. After he escaped the planet, abandoning his coward of a brother, he tried to find the Resisty--the one ray of hope he had against the Empire. When he found they were just a rag-tag group of rebels who had no idea what they were doing, his hopes were dashed. His bitterness grew, and over the years, through a combination of thieving, blackmail, murder and bribery, he got together a mercenary crew of pirates, slowly gaining infamy and wealth throughout the galaxy. Despite life improving for him, he remains a cruel, intolerant, loveless pirate.
Eventually, the appearance of a rival pirate group, led by a cocky irken named Tex, provided him a small outlet for his hatred--namely, competition.
Despite losing his parents and abandoning his brother, he kept the green scarf inherited from his father and the tattoos on his face given to him as an infant as a sign of his culture's pride. This proves he has not completely cut all ties to family, or the possibility of having a new one some day. Not to say that's anywhere on his agenda.
