Here's a song I've had recorded for almost a month, but I needed
shiacoft to record the bass! I tried doing MIDI bass... but it's just not the same. I mean it's CLOSE, but nothing matches the pink one's fluffy funk.
Please tell me what you think in the comments. I will not be angry if you say something other than "OMG GOOD SONG" hehe. Let me have it. Tell me what's wrong with it.
Oh, and yeah I'm already writing stuff for the new album.
It's gonna be called Waiting and will be kind of thematic. Gonna try and write an ALBUM, not a collection of songs.
Lyrics:
I know I’ve seen this place before
the rocks beneath my soles feel safe
the sky is clear the sun is warm
but something else is out of place
maybe too may box cars on the track
maybe too many houses on the street
but you know you’ve gotta keep ‘em comin’ back
gotta keep ‘em beggin for mercy
Chorus:
What we find in searching
may be what the enemy has planted
but if patience pays we
might not find ourselves alone at night
Running won’t bring back my feet
sleeping won’t bring back my dreams
waiting only gets me as far as tomorrow
as many times as I can stand
you never grasp unless you reach
you never find until you seek
try me once again
let’s see how strong I am
Chorus
Baptize me with rocks and stones
hurt me any way you can
tell me that I am alone
tell me he’s a broken man
But I’m not ready; not enough for you
I know there’s only one way out of this town
and if I’m gonna drop, stop the clock
I’m down for the count
[guitar solo]
Chorus

You're only the second person to say that, but I think it's because not many people I talk to know TMBG.
I hear what you're talking about in this song in particular. I'm really straightforward and a bit nasal.
Thanks for listening, and I'm glad to see a new face in the comments :D

hehe I might call it "waiting for ____" or something, but that's the working title at least.
Thank you, I'm glad you like it. Yeah that tritone away thing is cool, followed by MY favorite chord change, where you take a minor chord, then move to a major chord a half step lower (in this case G#m to G)
The only common tone is the THIRD in both chords. I dunno that makes me happy hehe.
GLAD you like the melodica. The first person I showed it to (
primal) hated it and still does hehe

Clipping? It is heavily compressed and limited to make it as loud as possible (thus the waveform will be just a friggin BLOCK without much definition)
You might be hearing my guitar pick clicking across the strings which is very present. Are there any spots in particular that are distorted?
This is troubling because I just got new monitors and I hope they're not somehow hiding errors in the recording.
Hopefully it's the guitar pick. I use a very thin one that makes a distinctive clatter each time I strum.

Yayieeeeee! *does a little giddy dance*
I happen to live in the fair [SEE: CORRUPT and BROKE) state of Illinois
And I am marking this then upon my calendar
As long as I can get a ride and I won't be missing anything major
In my college classes I will be there :D
I can get to meet you silly guys and you can put a face
To those odd and occasionally non-sequiter comments
That clog your inbox.....OOOOO Shiny goldfish!!!!!

I don't get the comparison to They Might Be Giants that other commenters were making earlier. I would ask if your influences include Blues Traveler, REM and The Spin Doctors. It lacks TMBG's Jingle-like cadences and tendency towards silliness.
I enjoyed it. You have a voice type that I don't hear very often and it sets you apart. That will let you do a lot with this kind of alternative-folk that many other artists wouldn't be able to without sounding "samey". Good show. This is the first song of yours that I have listened to. I'll be listening to more. It was a good introduction, I think.

Yeah I don't know what about THIS song made people think TMBG.
I think they mean the nasal quality to my voice in this piece.
I'm glad my voice is distinct-ish. There aren't a ton of baritones in rock music (usually tenors)
Thanks so much for listening ^^
OH, here's one that I took a ton of TMBG influence from.
See if this isn't more worthy of that comparison.

Aight' you said to let you have it and I want to preface this by saying I REALLY like this song and this pretty much all personal preference I suppose. But I figure you wanted to hear some negative things aha.
First the vocals sound... oddly compressed. I don't know if that's the right word for it, but I hope you understand what I mean. Also, in the first verse you sound almost bored.
When the melodica solo comes in, I can hear a lot of fuzz behind it. But that's crazy hard to get rid of.
I feel the rhythm guitar is mixed too low for the song especially compared to the bass.
Other than that, this is pretty fantastic. Some GREAT writing too. Congrats you are yet another band that should have a hit single~
Best wishes!

If by compressed you mean restrained I know what you mean, especially at the beginning.
I think it's in how I EQed the stuff. I might be able to go back and more high end to it, as my MO for vocals used to be all low mid (heck was my style for ALL my mixing, trying to get more bass, but it sounds muffled instead.
I was hoping that first verse would sound at ease and not bored X3 but hey if that's what came out that's what came out. It's the low range of the melody.
The fuzz behind the melodica troubles me because I can't hear it. I mean it could be the shaker which is present throughout the song, or the reverb on the drums.
I don't hear any fuzz that would be like... a bad cable or something, or wind. What kind of speakers are you listening on?
I'm glad you like it, and thank you for taking the time to make such thoughtful comments. It's always helpful, and helps me re-evaluate my stuff rather than slip into a pattern of being satisfied with mediocrity.
