easy stuff! well depends on what level do you want to take it haha
if you are working on a program that lets you use blend modes on layers . you can select layer mode color. put up some basic tones, and when done paint over the two layers (or join the layers. whatever) and then you are good to make any edit you want!

I use photoshop so its pretty easy to blend two layers, i know some people use sai to do this, but i could never really get into that program, idk it just felt weird... anyways i think i can do the basic shading stuff, using "soft light" and "darken" with b/w/g but i want to get as good as this someday :D http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&a.....night#/d2e654c

good thing then! actually sketching or drawing the values for a picture is a really important step, i could almost guess that the artist that did that picture did first a value work like what you have above here, then it probably chose the best colors and then got to work. its something many people do O:

i actually tried coloring that way, but it always looks "fake" if you know what i mean, i would like to color it with color and value at the same time, though i understand where your getting at that its a step to the next, but idk i feel lazy lol xD
