My half of a sketch trade with 
Birone.
As soon as I spotted mention of film noir on his char sheet, I totally had to do Frank Miller-esque shading instead of the splash of color I was plotting for most of these. Unfortunately it also makes things epic serious-looking so I really had to emphasize the smirk so he looked more confident/determined and less dark and broody.

I love the film noir look to this. As you mentioned, he does have a confident look to him. And the lighting really adds to that.
