Here's what's going on...

Sistine is being transformed into her Deathbringer form, a form which she obtained against her will. A Deathbringer is a bird who well, is a controller of a certain kind of death. Sistine is the Deathbringer of Time, or old age. (Just to let you know, everyone in her world is a bird, many warm blooded creatures have died off, leaving only a few non bird species and many reptiles. Birds were that main group of warm blooded creatures to survive whatever happened. All humans are dead.) There are also other Deathbringer birds. Each Deathbringer has an idem, Sistine's being a silver watch. Sistine's main goal is to rid herself of her silver watch, and destroy her curse.
