So, this year,
hali joined me and my old band at the annual August party re-union. He, with myself and my old bass player, Other Matt, did a few of Hali's tunes, a couple of ben Folds tunes and this little diddy, with the rest of Fear Liston.
We all sang a verse on this one. Starting of is Neil, then Other matt, Chris, Me and Hali with chris doing the harmony. Musicians are Me on drums, Neil on guitar, Other Matt on bass, and Hali on piano. Chris's acoustic guitar was wiped for some reason. Computers. Gotta love when they crash.
Other Matt and Neil are working to save more song files from the show. I'll present the best ones when I get them. For now, enjoy this one! >"^_^"<

Dude. Duuuuude. Well done. This makes me want to dig up the recording I've got of this, though the fidelity is ass I'm sure because we didn't record it from the board.
Pretty straightforward cover, but it's kinda hard to fuck with a masterpiece and not sound like a bunch of pretentious douches.
That chorus is a little hard to nail down, innit? ;P
Oh, and I met you at FC a month ago. Pink Floyd shirt, talked to (almost exclusively, as Matt was gorging himself on trail mix) you Sunday after 'yall's performance. Long hair. Chow chow. 'Professional' musician (tens and tens of dollars). Bob Dylan nut.
Have you heard The Basement Tapes?
Lates.

Yeah, I remember you. Just couldn't remember your name. Posted about it in one of the FC journals I wrote.
Thanks for the compliment. I love the song and when my old bass player wanted to do it, with Hali and the whole band taking a verse, I thought, fuck yeah.
The chorus is very odd. I don't believe Levon Helm had a harmony for it originally. I think the producer said, just do a harmony and that's what was put down. It's sounds very 'on the fly'.
I did try to keep the drums true to the original. nothing flashy. it's definitely a song I hold dear and would kill myself if I couldn't do it justice. The rest of the band are really good at what they do. I had no doubts we would pull it off.
And YES, I have heard some of The Basement tapes. ^^

You probably haven't seen this. It's a real gem.

Robbie seems to be on something, as he keeps wandering away from the mic before rushing back to it when he notices that he has to sing his harmony in the chorus.
What's truly great is Levon's hi-hat constantly getting away from him, like it's on wheels or something. He's yelling at a roadie off-stage, probably telling someone to level the goddamn stage or at the very least nail his hi-hat to the floor.
