You know when you have to keep in mind where the light source is when adding shading and such? Here, it's mostly coming from the lightning bolts. Usually, I'm kind of half-assed about it--I usually just go with upper-left or something generic like that and I don't always completely adhere to it.
You could always hide your old comments, but yeah I get what you mean, top left and stuff.... but if it's any comfort I used to only do lightning that was central, like reversing selection on the lines, and contract it and have that area be light.......
