You don't really see this sort of things at car shows anymore. Of course, you never did, since this year's model is furry not human. The vital statistics? 1959 Chevy El Camino, the most beautiful production pick-up ever designed, though not necessarily the most macho or practical. Those of you with sharp eyes probably don't need to be directed to the license plate. And the sign in the background is for the Canadian National Exhibition, which had a great car show when I was a kid. Since then, the car show has split off from the CNE and costs a fortune to attend.

Love the underwear peak under the shirt tails!
The auto show would be so much better with actual booth bunnies. Too bad it is now in the bowels of the Metro Toronto Conference Centre. I remember attending a great one years ago at the CNE, but it was attached to the Molson Indy.

We still have the Molson Indy, or a similar noisy race by some other name. It isn't far from where I live and I can hear it all day on the street. Unfortunately all that's free is the noise. We don't get to actually see the race unless we pay a lot of money.
I went to one of the auto shows at the MTCC but didn't have time to see it all, unfortunately. It's very spread out. It was in November, so it had no connection to the August race.

As I recall, Ford came out with the Ranchero as a response to the Chevy, and was pretty much along the same lines. Pity that they both ended up as routine pick-ups after a few years, and I suppose eventually discontinued in favour of more massive, more brutally styled trucks. And now Detroit is designing ordinary cars that look like trucks. Ug.
