"The set-up was right - everything had been in place: the locket, the candles, the incantation, the mirror. After all the heartbreak, the anger, the helplessness. The sleepless nights he had poured over old, dusty, forbidden tomes. He had done it. He had brought her back. And once more did he gaze into her eyes, once more could he behold her figure, as pristine and glowing since the days before her passing.
But she was frightened. This was no longer her home. At first, his face was once again a joy to witness. But as her eyes met his, she realized he was ... different. In place of love, she had seen madness, frustration, obsession.
Yes, he had brought her back. A gamble for a fleeting glimpse. A gamble that she'd stay. But she could not. He was no longer the man she knew. And so she fled out of the mirror, shattering it and the twisted lump within his chest where a warm heart used to be.
How could this be? What more could he do? He could not comprehend what had just happened. He dulled and sank to the floor. What little hope and physical energy his body had held onto all these nights finally seeped out of his hollow eyes as he stared blankly at the floor, still clutching the locket.
She hovered in the hallway, listening to his breathing slow as he eventually succumbed to sleep. She watched him while he slept into the night, waiting for the spell to wear off. Waiting for the invisible tether tying her to this world to disintegrate so once more could she ascend into the afterlife. As dawn began to break, she finally faded, heavy with sorrow and pity for the ghost of her love."
This painting. THIS PAINTING. Was a monster to paint. I've been working on this just about every night for a short time. I don't like saying how long I've spent on pieces. I referenced a lot of things around my house for this, and had my boyfriend pose for me. I referenced myself somewhat for the girl. I'm pretty sure this is the longest I've worked on a digital piece, but I really wanted to push myself on it, and I guess I did. This is also the largest painting I've done in photoshop.
Whew. And yet, not exactly proud or satisfied with it. Maybe it's because I don't find humans any fun to paint. Eh.
I've decided to name the ghost girl Cecilia. Her lover is Lance, for now, until I come up with a better name or decide to stick with this one.
Both the artwork and the description are © me, Blackchimera (Ollychimera on dA)
I'm open for commissions. Price sheet here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10139099/ Note me for details.
