This was done with markers and some white paint, but for the scanned version I did do a digital smoothing out of the sky. For whateve reason the scanner really makes marker streaking look 10 times worse.

Yeah, that particular prehistoric horror is pretty much a whaler's nightmare. That thing almost certainly would have been a man-eater - or at least capable of it - were we alive when it was.
Though it also, if you'll excuse the fan geekery, reminds me of a prehistoric version of the Leviathans of the Star Trek universe - the titanic superwhales that built the Probe that the fourth movie's plot was centered around.
