Background Info The Marines believe you should never leave a fallen comrade behind on the battlefield. The Shogun Maidens should have heeded that advice.
Getter Raye was one of the original Maidens, having fought alongside Mazinger Zoe since the beginning of their "secret space war" against the Gorgon race. Raye's berzerker fighting style and brutal nature were a stark contrast to Zoe's cool, efficient methods, but the two were inseparable, both on the battlefield and in bed, and any challenge to Zoe's command was sure to be greeted with a Getter Tomahawk embedded warningly near the challenger's head.
However, the pivotal battle of the Gorgon War, the Sea of Tranquility Massacre, would end up taking its proverbial pound of flesh from both sides; no participant left unscathed, and horrible losses were reported both among the Gorgon and JSDF combatants. During the course of the Massacre, Zoe and Raye were separated when the berzerking Getter single-handedly attacked one of the main alien command posts and was engulfed in the ensuing explosion. The sight of her lover's death drove Zoe into her own blood-frenzy, slaughtering anything not of Earth origin in reach as she frantically tried to reach Raye; all told, a good quarter of the total Gorgon invasion force died on the lunar surface that day, and all present remain certain this was because of the Mazingirl's rage. The detonation of a stolen nuclear device forced all combatants, organic and robotic, Terran and Gorgon, to abandon the contaminated battlefield, and the Shogun Maidens had no choice but to forcibly restrain their incensed commander and literally drag her back to the JSDF mothership, forcing her to abandon her lost lover or face total destruction.
But Raye wasn't dead; critically damaged, both by her initial wounds and then by the resulting EMP and radiation, she remained trapped in the Sea of Tranquility, buried under tons of moon rocks and Gorgon rubble and corpses. Slowly, the radiation seeped into her core, contaminating the Getter Rays that fueled her and sustained her life. She was unable to die, unable to free herself, unable to prevent herself from succumbing to the corruption of her base program and personality...slowly, she began to rebuild herself from the scrapped alien technology, further altering her programming as the alien code wormed, virus-like, through her mind.
Finally, she was able to free herself, but what walked from the irradiated battlegrounds was no longer the robot who fought alongside the Shogun Maidens. Dark, twisted, and consumed with hatred for those she believed were once her friends and allies, particularly her former lover, she returned to earth and waits in the shadows, working her way through the surviving Shogun Maidens as she makes her way to her ultimate target: Mazinger Zoe.
For someone I just made, she feels like she's been there all along; so many of Zoe's actions and quirks can be traced back to her tragic affair with Getter Raye, right down to why Maisy has red hair instead of silver like Zoe (Raye, you can't tell here, is also a red-head).
By comparison, this is the "Getter Robo" girl I drew a couple days after creating Zoe, which, now that I think about it, actually DOES mean that Raye has been around almost as long as her. NATURALLY, I plan on reworking this design to make it a little more similar to Black Raye.
...OKAY, I admit, part of why I wanted to show this was to prove I'm not JUST a loli-artist. I almost accidentally made Raye much curvier than my usual sleek girls, but that still works considering the "barrel body" of her source 'bot.
Again, these are ALL just initial designs. They obviously need a LOT of work, but Raye has already begun to grow on me big time.
Besides, like I said in the "Lost Ones" thread, it's about time the robo-girls got their own Kiga.
