Not as much as doing all of my character plates. This was only three fires! I brushed on three colors on the rim, then pressed real leaves into the wet paint. After pulling them off, I brushed more paint out to heighten the contrast.
The fox design I drew on with my red pen before brushing on the same three colors. Then I used an oiled brush to pull the paint off where I wanted white, and added fresh color to darker areas. I used a metal crow quill to ink in the dark scratchy lines.

The dark lines that come from the eyes look so nice and really add to the fox vs if it didnt have them i think. Good, subtle contrast.
