Came up with the basic idea for this guy a lil while ago and took me a while to get a look for his species which I liked. Decided to do something more with this pic though and show you guys what their home world looks like and give some info on it. As always I'll be doing a species Codex entry and then talking about the individual in the pic.
The Yaun are a species native to the world Telesta. Unlike Terran life the Telestian biosphere functions with Chlorine taking the place oxygen would normally hold. As such the Yaun themselves breath Chlorine while the plant life of their world breath their waist gas Carbon Tetrachloride. This makes their atmosphere highly toxic to humans. The Yaun themselves are a hardy people. The product of a global war between two pre existing subspecies. When the war was over the planet's population was reduced to near stone age levels and the surviving populations interbred until the two subspecies had melded into one. The word Yaun is taken from the ancient languages of their forefathers in which Yaun translated to One in both languages. The Yaun have recovered rapidly from what they call "The Fall" Re-achieving their current level of technology within a few thousand years. Effects of "The Fall" are still felt on Telesta. It's beautiful gold laced rings ae the result of it's smallest moon being destroyed. There are also swaths of land which remain radioactive to this day. Surviving from their ancient lineage is a skill for combat. Every Yaun is trained in some form of combat. They consider themselves a warrior people though value scientific advancement and the endeavor of peace. The Yaun view many professions are a warrior in some sort. One of the most respected fields of study on their world is History. Man a Yaun Archeologist has ventured into the corners of their world to search out what they can from the ruins from before "The Fall". These digs have unearthed much in the way of technology which has helped them learn. Most of all are the occasional artificial intelligences which have been discovered in the past which the Yaun refer to as "Ghost".
Approximately 15 years prior to current standard date the Yaun made first contact with extraterrestrial life. This contact came in the form of the last Terran colony vessel making touch down on an island nation. The local population of Yaun there were tribal and offered little resistance to the colonizing humans who initially believed them to be nothing more than beast. When they explored the main land however their assessment quickly changed with an accidental shooting during first official contact which lead to the death of many Yaun. Relations between the two species have been uneasy ever since though have improved. However there is still a fear by many that the Humans might try to conquer them. Most Yaun officials are wary of humanity. They know that humans outclass them technologically but that Yaun also far outnumber them and that their planet's very environment is a hindrance to humans who must wear a mask to filter out the chlorine and condense what little oxygen is present in their atmosphere.
For Humanity's part they came to Telesta as a last ditch survival effort having detected a world with liquid water and sighs of a biosphere from a distance. Earth and the Mars colony had both been rendered lifeless rocks during a civil war which nearly resulted in the extinction of humanity. After traveling for several thousand years they finally reached their destination. Though the atmosphere was Toxic they were confident it could be terraformed when they land. The presence of Sapient life on the planet was entirely unexpected. Many humans are unsure of how to view the Yaun. Most see them as primitive to some extent or another. However they also notice that the Yaun nations have not had War in any large capacity for over two centuries.
Yosmet Vhock or "Yos" to friends is a young Yaun in his late teens living in the Capital city of the nation Tol'es (Center continent.) A large nation covering the continent from which it takes it's name. Yos is a reletively happy individual who enjoys spending his time with a good book or reading or when he can venturing out to a dig site with his aunt. At present Yos works at a general store while studying to become an archeologist. Yos has little in the way of a social life tending to be absorbed by his study. Of course this is little helped by the fact that he typically turns down offers to stay over at a friend's house for fear of a secret being discovered. Yos has had issues with bed wetting most of his life and as such has felt uncomfortable spending the night at a friends. He doubted he could hide the thick cloth diaper and rustling plastic pants he wore and knew that if he did not wear them he'd wake up to wet sheets in the night. So Yos tends not to be fairly shy in that regard. Yos has however still made some friends. Even gotten to know some of the humans living in the city though he finds their homes a bit odd.
Well hope you guys liked the pic and the lil story. ^^

Cool, one of my fictional species, the Butyal; has a toxic quality too, their blood contains high levels of lead not because they need it, but because it's all over their planet. This also came form a radioactive event, but it was long enough ago that all the radiation subsided leaving behind stable lead.
Organisms on their planet, Pitooth have evolved to not be effected by lead by developing ways to avoid what makes lead and other heavy metals toxic; lead kills humans because the body mistakes it for iron and tries to use it damaging itself in the process, the butyal body knows the difference between iron and lead and simply flushes the lead away through the waste when it can or just straight up ignores the lead's presence.
Now about your species its very original that instead of replacing carbon with something like most people do with alternate chemistries you exchanged oxygen for chlorine. I have another species; the Flarbengarb who drink ammonia instead of water, their planet; Aoterra is completely basic (ph14) a human would die instantly there...
My main fictional species however, the Azdov, their biochemistry is the same as humans except Azdov have a higher radiation tolerance.
