As far as I know this one and another were built around World War 2 along with many other similar fortifications in Delaware. There are no natural hills in this park. If you see a hill it likely contains a bunker or makes up the back of a gun battery.

I like the place a lot. Its usually pretty quiet and I like to take pictures there. Though I kinda laugh at the name "River view trail" whenever I walk it, seeing as there is no river view XD.
as far as I know it was built during World War 2, but seeing the base is much older than that there is a very real possibility it was built earlier.

The name "River view trail" was given around the same time that the defensive battery housing was built. It was intended to confuse any possible enemy troops landing there. They would waste a lot of time trying to figure out just where the "river" was and where they were.
