They're seriously the best pets I've ever had, even over a cat or a dog.
I've had all kinds of animals in my lifetime, and none of them beat rats. They're like miniature dogs, really.
Mine will come to their names, cuddle with me, play with me, etc.
You just really have to be aware of where you get them from. Places like PetSmart and PetCo source their rats from rodent mills, which are awful places that breed rats with no regards to health history or behavior.
This is a serious problem, because rats have very sensitive lungs and are prone to respiratory infections, so you want to be sure you're getting decent rats. Vet bills for rats can get very, very expensive if you have to get them antibiotics all the time, or in the case of my hairless rat Ichabod-- it killed him no matter how much medicine I gave him. Eventually, I just let him pass on because it wasn't fair to him. He was my first rat, and I didn't know any better at the time. I thought I trusted the small pet shop I bought him from, but I was wrong to.
The two rats I bought from PetSmart (and two my friend bought from the same location) have TERRIBLE mental and behavioral problems. Aggression, fear, etc. It's really a shame.
I've found some really excellent rats from smaller, family owned shops. It's best to try and get them from reputable breeders or adopt, because the rat population is HUGE. TOO HUGE. And I didn't ask for this litter, it was a serious mistake and though I love all the babies and wouldn't take it back, no one should breed rats without due cause.
Sorry, I don't mean to throw a wall of text at you, just trying to pass the knowledge around. n_n
and
are also a huge source of rat knowledge. Ziggy rescues, and Sero breeds. :)

Lol No, It's okay actually xD
I don't mind learning a bit more about Rats,
And I think it's good that you are teaching people about them ^^.
It's better for people to know, Then Not to know, Heh.
But thanks! (:
I will deffinetly keep all of that in mind,
I don't buy pets from pet shops anyway. lmfao. I've known about bad industries, and where they come from.
I feel bad for all the animals...
I wish I could rescue them all ):
