Sometimes a smaller frame allows a larger margin for error but usually thats not the the point, the sheer size allows every minute detail look good despite being unclear, it creates an enjoyable aesthetic aspect.
Just like many amazing paintings, I find a little piece of art like this often lets the viewer "fill in" the missing information with their mind while being conscious of it or not.
