I originally came up with Avise because I didn’t want Uzira to be the villain in my little world anymore, but I still wanted a villain. I like rats a lot, and consider them part of the “animal trinity” (canines/wolves, felines/lions, rodents/rats). Avise’s design shaped pretty quickly from that. Since I had green and Uzira had red, it seemed only natural to give him blue as his signature color. His build is meant to be very skinny, which I think suits the idea of rats (often times there are so many of his species that they frequently suffer famine).

Like most characters, he was originally fairly straight forward and represented a specific kind of person: the nihilist. His characters tend to be constantly depressed, sometimes whiny. Anything his characters do can pretty much be summed up to, “It doesn’t matter.” He’s a satire of the people who are obsessed with Fight Club, and quote it constantly, and most of his characters point out how stupid this theory is.

Recently, though, I’ve started to adjust his characters very slightly. His villainous characters mostly remain as they were, but he’s begun to have protagonist characters. He’s starting to be written as painfully shy. Lucky, from the MLA stuff, talks a bit like Flutterfly from My Little Pony; his voice growing progressively lighter and squeakier, much to Nine’s annoyance. Even his villanous characters now at least have a reason for their cruelty and evil, as opposed to just being bad.
