I had this banging around in my nightstand for 10 years, and it never did work...
Now that I have the mechanical aptitude to see what was wrong, I pulled it apart, removed the crapped up flint, cleaned it up, new flint, fluid and BAM
It works
It has on the bottom

I did some searching, Continental was made in Japan
That's all that came up, I cannot find an EXACT model that I have, all are smaller or taller..
Most lighters I have seen from Continental are oval or roundish... mine is squareish
I guess I need to find a forum for old lighters...

I've found this if it's of any use. http://www.knifeforums.com/forums/s.....hp?tid/771643/ I'd love an old vintage lighter. The oldest I have is probably late 60's early 70's or something.
It depends on which war. As I understand it most lighters such as the wick ones like Zippo didn't exist before the first world war when the troops started to craft their own lighters from what I read that is... Most of the early lighters are rare I suppose but those that are made in the trenches are more rare
