C of E is short for Church of England, the largest Protestant church in the UK, founded by Henry VIII. It's actually incredibly varied in type of worship from 'Catholicism Lite' (minus the transubstantiation of the Host) to services that Baptists or Pentacostal churchgoers would not feel out of place at.

Just to confuse the issue further, a few churches operate as Methodist and C of E after the signing of an accord between the two churches at York Minster a few years back. Dave is High Church and prefers the evening services, especially sung Compline.
