STORY TIME
"Vitals? Zey are good. Blood Pressure? Also good. Cell division ... yah, also good."
The old scientist shuffled about the room, making sure Alder's body had recovered well from the transformation. Alder was quite healthy, if not a little bit better.
"Very good. All is going well. As promised, you have three hours of play. Ze gates to ze city are open. But remember, three hours. No more!"
"Thank you, sir!" Alder put on his shirt, pants and another layer of clothes (it was cold in the region, and would remain as such for another six months). He sprang from the table and, with a quick salute, shot out the door, making a beeline for the gates.
The scientist checked his watch.
"Und no less, freund."
Alder rushed about the city, looking for clues to find the neighborhood where he had met Lily. For the weeks they had spent together, she had shown him her hideout. He was sure she'd recognize her ... maybe.
Finally a street caught his eye. Going down it, he recognized an alleyway, which led to a nook, taking him into a house. There he went to a basement, then a tunnel, a pipe, a thing, a something and a whatsit and found her lair.
Walking into the hideout, he wondered if she'd recognize him.
THOK
Answer found.
"Who are you 'n why're you here?!" Lily eyed Alder up and down. The clothes were familiar and so was his hair and eyes, but she'd not seen something so inhuman before. Aside from Technica bots, that is.
"Lily, it's me, Alder!" Alder whipped around, clutching his head and holding out his hand defensively. Frying pans weren't mean for such abuse.
"Alder?" She looked him over again. And looking closer into his eyes ...
"Alder! You're alive?!"
"I thought you were dead. A stupid Technica spy or something done it, I thought."
There were sitting about the room. After hearing all the things Lily thought could've happened (and fortunately didn't) Alder had been able to flesh out the details.
"Naw," said Alder. "Some of the scientists took me in and are trying to develop a super-soldier serum."
"You mean at th'lab out at city's edge?"
"Yeah. I've kinda become their guinea pig. I may even be doing field testing." He said this with a nervous air. He'd fought before, but he was not very good. What was worse, robots were supposed to be far harder than humans. And cold.
They sat in silence for a short time. Then, as nonchalantly as could be ...
"'Kay," said Lily, "so, wanna see some new stuff I found? I think I found a large shirt that might fit you now."
Alder sat there, a little stunned. He thought it would've taken her longer to take it in. But it helped. The worry on his shoulders was lifted, it seemed. Had he known she intended this effect, some worry may have stayed.
As he got up, he noticed his clothes were a little tighter. Maybe he'd take that offer.
