A speedpainting aimed at creating a diagonal composition. My goal was to make a pic that could be read in one specific direction to tell its story. At first I wanted to put some colours in it, but working in grayscale helped me managing the levels quickly.

great pic raf! even if it is a quick speed painting I can see you have picked up some new tricks that are working well.
Like the blurring of the furniture at the front really pulls focus to your character (same character of your without the hat?)
Also looks like your sense of values is improving (most of the contrast is around him so again is the main focus)
Keep it up buddy!

I tried to add little points of interest with a few extra highlights here and there (most notably on the chair, the keys and on his muzzle) to draw the foucs of the picture, I'm glad the contrast worked well. I wanted the pic to be read from the chair to the copyright info on the top, diagonally, so I kept most elements and contrasts towards that direction. A friend said the picture ended up with a horizontal reading (from left to right), what do you think, Stu?
Ah, as for the character, yes, it's the same old one, though I don't think it would be very polite to wear a hat inside a café, specially when tasting whiskey B) Thanks for the comment, mate!
