The ship is currently running low on supplies so until relief can arrive all operations have been suspended. I've already cataloged all available battle data up to this point so I'm stuck trying to kill time until I can start working again. A strange thing happened today: While I was repairing one of the Hunter units, he began to ask me why I didn't destroy him for failing out on the field.
I programmed them with adaptable intelligence but to see one with such an advanced emotional response is quite jarring. The fluid leaking from his optic sensor painted an all too real picture: I had created something capable of understanding shame. I sent him, assuring him of his value, but the thought lingered in my head.
Have I created life or am I just deluding myself as usual? Either way, the question kept me from sleeping. If I have this kind of prowess, am I just wasting it here?

Based on how he was "crying" in that shame, it seems possible that you created a "neural net" of sorts that simulates human-esque emotions. Otherwise I could understand the failure of a mission, but not necessarily the idea of a physical human-esque reaction to it. Creating synthetic life is definitely an interesting moral issue, one I like to explore with my own stories!
