Okay, so the last part of the “Tomorrow’s Girls” project is supposed to be a production still pasted into the poster artwork. My original thought was to show a stereotypical fifties Hollywood couple clutching each other and staring horror-struck off-camera. That proved impractical for a variety of reasons.
My next thought was to show a flying saucer over a bad matte painting of Earth and starfield. Again, that proved impractical, though I didn’t get the hint until after spending more than one hundred fifty dollars on a CD of computer-rendered TIFF images of Earth globes. Oh well, at least I can keep the CD in my library for use in future paying projects.
After some aimless flailing, I had a sudden flash of inspiration. The other photo is based on a lyric—“The milkman screamed and pointed up at the sky”—so I should do the same for this photo. I rummaged through some stock images I’ve accumulated. Indeed, there is a very East Coast-looking bit of beach. Add a flying saucer with landing gear deployed (and a bit of Gaussian blur), a texture suggesting wind-blown sand (and dial back the opacity), and a bit of red glow. Mess about with saturation to suggest the rather limp color response of films from the period, et voilà!
“They’re landing on the Jersey beaches,
Their engines make the white sand swirl . . .”

Heh, I loved listening to that song. I have the Don Fagin CD "Kamakiria" which plays it. It was very cool and funky.
I think that you a a very fair and fine enough recretion of those old cheap 1950s science fiction movies. Though it's done with a colorized CGI touch, it's a nice tributue to that movie era/gerne, and the song. You should be happy with your work.
