It was gonna be a regular day for the plumber from Brooklyn and the Koopa king. The Princess is kidnapped, go through a myriad of puzzles, beat each other up a bit, then go back home. Rinse, lather, repeat. But something was off about today. Something sinister...
There they were, Mario and Bowser, the two about to face off. The big koopa feels the rush of energy being pumped into his veins as the little plumber stands his ground. They were about to charge at each other when suddenly, there he was.
A black hooded figure interrupted their battle, standing silent between the two warriors. The koopa king demanded the mysterious man in black to tell him his name. Silence. The king snorted, getting angry at his perceived insolence. He yelled at him again. Silence. Irritated and out of patience, Bowser clenched his fist and thrust it towards the mysterious boy.
Then, almost in an instant, he vanished. The big dragon couldn't believe what he saw. Nor what he was about to feel. Suddenly, a sharp pain pierced him in his heart and then, as quickly as it came, shot out of him like a cannon. Bowser looked on, staring at the plumber, wondering if he was an ally. His thoughts betrayed by the shocked look on Mario's face. The koopa then fell to the earth in a heap, befuddled by what had transpired. But he couldn't talk. He couldn't think. He couldn't even breath. There was... nothing. And then... darkness. Deep. Deep. Darkness.
The mysterious man, turning his attention towards the plumber, smiles serenely. His mission was accomplished. He had stolen the Koopa king's heart. Literally. As he began to fade into nothingness, he left Mario with a message:
If you want to save your princess, you must first save your enemy...
And just like that, he was gone. Suddenly, Mario was alone. With a soulless king staring out into space. Unable to say anything. Except the one this he'd never expect from him:
"Help me... Mario..."
