2012-06-03 Submission map v2 (high res)
This is a more of a timeline then submission maps I've uploaded earlier.
The image is a graph of the number of submissions uploaded to FA daily. From left to right, each vertical line represents a single day starting from the date of the first submission on FA, December 5th, 2005.
Each pixel on that vertical line represents a submission. The colors stand for submission maturity rating, with grey representing a submission that has been deleted.
This image has been created for analytical purposes and has provided us with the following information so far:
* The growth rate appears to be parabolic. this raises a concern about possible future capacity issues. Current infrastructure would need to be improved and new assets acquired at a faster rate then previously in order to support the site operation.
* Since the early ages of FA there have only been three major site outages spanning more then one day.
* indeed, the amount of general rated uploads far overshadows that of both mature and adult combined.
* above-linearly increasing growth shows FA's services are still in demand.

This is likely due to limited ways of exposure the artists have on this website to 'get out there' and showcase their work. Aside from word-of-mouth "check this guy out", a few minutes on the frontpage and people doing favorites surfing there isn't really any way to advertize yourself or get advertized with your work. Every day I come across the work of amazing artists I never knew were on FA - and not just the new people but those that have been here since the beginning.
This is (another) something that this website has to work on. If you have any ideas, you're welcomed to share them :)

Wow.
It may be time to start cracking down on people doing the double-submit trick to get around the 1024x1024 size limit. I've noticed people are uploading a lot more PNG files over 1MB as of late. I think SAI and some other programs also add a PNG alpha channel by default, which doesn't help.

Thank you! Fascinating!!
Here is a modest but simple suggestion to help viewers find what they want more easily:
Please post a list of all keywords from most common to least common, each keyword followed by the number of times it has been used to index a submission.
This would encourage some viewers to try Searches for combinations of keywords describing an image that they might like. It is easier, at least for most people, to select keywords describing desired features from a list than to pick them out of the air.
