A weapon is a tool. It doesn't harbor the moral codes of anyone using it. Like any tool it can be put to both good and evil uses. A gun used by a Nazi is about as evil as a sword used by a Roman which is to say not at all.

It's a nice weapon but not as beautiful as the M1 Garand.

I wish I had a Mauser. I did however just pick up a 1946 Izhevsk Arsenal M44 Mosin Carbine. All the Serial Numbers match too.

Twice now I've owned a Mauser, and both were in pretty bad shape and ended up being sold.
Eventually I'll get a genuine wartime K98 in decent condition and I'll love the shit out of it the way it deserves.

I plan to purchase a gun myself one day, so I won't call you evil for that. As for the gun, well I like the old saying, "Guns don't kill people, bullets do!" XD
Though, from the sound of it, you'll need a lot of them if you're using those Turkish surplus rounds.

Meh, it's no secret the Germans made good rifles. They also invented the Autobahn and the Peoples Car. Anyone driving a Volkswagen that is against Nazi German related artifacts should think twice as they're driving in the legacy of the Nazi People Mover. Designed by Ferdinand Porsche by the way.

I can't repeat it too often: The Nazi did neither invent, nor initially plan the Autobahn. The blueprints where in the desks since the 1920ies, the first part was finished in 1932 (on year before Hitler came to power) and opened by Konrad Adenauer (then mayor of Berlin, imprisoned during the war, later first chancellor of the Federal Republic).
People still thinking that it was Hitler's idea shows how effective Nazi propaganda still is. They built a lot of the routes - of course - but this was only possible by not paying the workers (using unemployed from all over Germany and only giving them food) and taking the money for the material out of the unemployment insurance.
The Volkswagen however was a Nazi invention, directly ordered from Porsche.

Most people don't realize that most of the bigger German companies have a Nazi history anyway. Your Siemens dishwasher was built by a company that used forced labour to build airplane motors, the anti-graffiti coating for the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin was created by Degussa, the company that marketed Zyklon B and so on... So I guess few people would care.

the answer to the last question is yes, as long as it's mostly straight, and the plane is not to big. Most WW2 fighters could work out of a 2000 foot runway. As can today A10.

Yes, some parts where used as a runway (Autobahn-Behelfsflugplatz) but -other than I thought until reading it up just this afternoon- they weren't planned as such. In the later years of the war most normal runways where allready destroyed and so this idea came up. Rammstein Air Base originally was part of an Autobahn.

I dunno, I never liked that gun, mostly because you have to manually reload after each shot, and cant just pull the trigger in rapid succession. Some might say that makes it a more accurate gun, but...

Now, I'm curious how many will label me here as evil even holding a ...NAZI GUN. Or worse yet...A GUN OWNER!!

I find few guns to be able to match the beauty of a German Mauser Kar98k.. I would kill to own one, and am actually saving for one as we speak. I've only had the chance to fire an old '48 Yugo Mauser but assuming then 'handle' the same, I am still in love with the weapon. Lucky Bastard.

I've got a Mosin Nagant 91/30 myself, and a Nagant revolver.

Nagant Revolvers....horrifically inaccurate, shoddily made...I know, I own one.

Agreed on all counts, but there's just something about it i love still. Especially when you consider was the revolvers actual use in action was; and i think it's just a classy sidearm when going for a theme haha.

Nice enough rifle from someone what knows nothing about rifles. As to having guns, so long as you know how to control your guns, then there's no need for gun control.

I'd really like a K98 myself. The bolt action rifle didn't really get much better after that. I'll be going to a show in the fall and will be looking for a good one. Would really like a 7x57.
I find it kind of funny that everybody points fingers at the nazis (not that it's undeserved), while ignoring all the other atrocities in the last couple hundred years. The massacres and outright elimination of entire segments of populations of people based on religion, ethnic, political, economic or whatever other reason somebody dreamed up can be applied to about every people that are in power today. The ironic part of the whole holocaust thing is that 6 million people would have served them far better as allies than as corpses or slaves. I guess blind hatred just makes you dumb.

I would love to fire a Kar98K or anything similar for sure. As its older Asian Cousin is none other than Type-24 Rifle used by the Republic of China during WW2. In fact, Mauser developed this from the framework of Gwer98 (or something goes by similar name) during the early 20s and the lessen learned from this become Kar98K.

Nice photo! I was lucky enough to pick up a nice 1938 42 coder a couple years ago. An RC post-war rebuild, but still a very solid shooter.

On-hand classics: a Post-War SMLE #4MK1 and a Post-War M1Garand. OK, they aren't actual wartime pieces. They are models that DID see service in WWII. Close enough for my needs.

I would not call it a Nazi gun, it is more or likely a international Firearm.

The Mauser Rifles and Carbines were used by countries like Poland, Czecho-Slovakia, Yugoslavia, Belgium, China and Israel.

My father has a Swedish M96.

When I was younger we went shooting it, and sighted in a truck- hood sized boulder- and using the rangefinder discovered that it's exactly a mile out...

Well, we were able to hit it with open sights (6.5x55mm) 9 times out of ten. (using a spotting scope to tell for sure)

Not bad for a mile without a scope! Not bad for a hundred year old rifle he bought for $50!
