Small snipper of a big piece I'm working on. I don't normally color like this... or at all... but I think it's working nicely? Now if only I could DRAW avians.
Need to fix the shading on his beak.
I'll scrap this when I complete the piece.
Random note, Iceman all over TV, Iceman.

Nice crow. :)
I'm not sure if the eye color is a character-specific thing, but crow eyes actually turn brown when they grow up. When they're babies, it is blue. :)
There's a book I use for reference on feather positioning on bird wings. Its on birds of prey, but if you look at photos of crow/raven wings you can sort of apply what you see in terms of feather arrangement on the bird of prey to the corvid. I can't remember the author off the top of my head (I haven't looked at it in quite awhile), but I'll let you know next time I'm online.

The eyes are actually a character thing; the fella he's based off of (a friend of mine who I haven't corrupted into the furry fandom yet, YET LOL) has gorgeous blue-green eyes. But I didn't know that the babies had blue eyes! Makes me wish I'd ever seen a baby now (only real ref I have is Bailey, a dorky crow who lives at the building I work out of and likes to swoop down to eat my popcorn.)
And I'll have to look at some books; so far anything I've drawn of bird-boy has been completely off the top of my head. :)

Well, here's that book I mentioned if you think it might come in useful..

The reason I mention this one specifically is that it is full of simple lineart illustrations, and they literally show how each and every individual feather is arranged on the wing. I think that makes it easier on the eyes when you're going for detail. :)
