Ferdie da Birdie and Amelia, the ghost of the Red Room. Random doodle from my webcomic, Bob Kiwi & Co. ( http://bobkiwi.tripod.com )
Spent much of the last two weeks hammering out the plot of the current storyline (a haunted house mystery-ish gambol) and the appearance and design of its characters. Ferdie, the mountain bluebird, parapsychologist (ghost hunter), and professional coward, is a series standard; Amelia (the ghost) is one of the ghosts in the house. Playful and rather naive, she follows Ferdie around like a lost puppy - after all, he's the first person in a hundred years that's been able to see her!
The ghosts for this story have been driving me crazy when it comes to coloring them, as they're all semi-transparent. And glowy. It took quite a bit of fiddling to get Amelia's colors, brightness, transparency, and glow working the way I'd wanted...still, I like how it turned out. (Rather, I like how Amelia's lineart turned out in this image: lots of movement and flow. I was going for a billowy look, similar to Disney's Little Mermaid and select spooks from Ghostbusters...)
Micron inks on cardstock, colored in Photoshop. First time using both shadow AND highlight layers...joy.
