This is what happens when I try to draw Groudon without a reference and somehow end up with some silly cartoony style. I'm still learning how to shade and stuff so sorry for the fudged-up quality. It's not my strength at all. >w<;;

I fail pretty badly when it comes to 'shading' and anything in between, unfortunately. So everything I doodle is to be expected to have cruddy shading until I can somehow improve. x3 But thank-you~! I've always liked Groudon so I find him cute no matter what, I suppose that is a contributing factor to how I was able to make him even more so.
I've seen much worse shading, and I can't even blame you. I don't even like shading. At all. Ever. Every time I do it, I consider not doing it.
Probably the best thing you could do for yourself here is to try using the pen tool (if you're using Photoshop; I'm not sure how many other programs have it). It's really good for smooth lines, and that translates well into "flat shading." It doesn't look like that's what you were going for, but flat shading is probably the best way to start.
