This looks like heaven

The alley itself was a sea of rats. Stinky, giant-balled rats, climbing over each other to get into dumpsters and chow away at the buffet. People avoid the alley like death. I've died once, so why the hell not roll around with the creeping diseased masses...

for a shot like this, I'd say worth it!

How long of an exposure was this?

Probably something like 40 seconds at f/8.0. I should've shot it at 60 seconds at least and pulled the exposure back... I shot the whole set this was from so underexposed it's depressing.

I only ever run with the Olympus - easiest to carry whilst simultaneously being a monkey and/or running from the cops. :B

I feel like HDR would be right up your "alley" with all the nighttime shooting you do. It would definitely help with those neon lights in the background.

Buh, h8 HDR... played with it in the past, found it cumbersome and difficult to manipulate in a convincingly realistic manner. The best thing I've found is the habit of exposing to the right and pulling it down - I don't mind the blown whites, else I'd bracket and blend which looks much more natural anyway.

Not trying to attack ya here, sorry if I came off that way. Just really against the pervasive run of HDR.

Well, I get what you mean with the odd look. But i've using this free program, Pictureaut that you can simply get the whole range without losing the look of reality. The last shot I have in my gallery was an HDR I cross-processed. I only say this, because that all white sign, to me, detracts from the shot ad I know that would help to degree.
