My bloodline knows the power in just making another smile. My mother knew nothing of real suffering like the rest of her friends, but she knew how to ease such misery. She brought happiness and joy into the lives of those around her, and no one was happier than my father.

She told me that letting sorrow never solved anything, and that happiness inspired everyone to do their best. I grew up learning that spreading pain only brings pain back in return, but if you give a smile, than it would eventually find its way back to you even bigger than when it left. I took those words to heart, and I spend every day striving to bring my family and friends smiles.

I smile for my brother and sister. I smile for my cousins. I smile for my friends who are more like brothers and sisters to me. I smile for everyone who could use a bit of joy in their day.

Derra is one of the sweetest characters in all of Besieged if you ask me. She devotes herself to her great big family, and further she hates violence and blood shed. She takes after her mother, and very much wants to bring joy and light like she did.

Coming from a family that knew first hand how brutal life could be, she knew the power that joy and smiles had over others. Derra is determined to not let anything bring her family down, though that task is easier said than done.

As a side note...it occurs to me that if you mix Derra and Blair together....you'd get Pinkie Pie. Yeah...let THAT sink in.
