Okay, so here are the results of my first foray into making avatars for secondlife. everything came out perfectly with only a few minor unavoidable flaws due to the limitations of the secondlife modeling engine. I'll start with what makes me happy about this, then end with what I would like to improve on
First off, just about every detail is done with sculpted primitives. this allows for more precice detail without the lumps created by clusters of primitives. since it uses fewer objects and polygons, it is flies well under standard prim count limits, as well as being more usable by lower end computers.
The one bad thing about sculpt prims is they have some lossy data in translation, leading to tiny details being smoothed out or removed (like the points of the claws on the hands). but the detail superiority vs. prim clusters is still quite apparent.
Okay, some other issues. One, the main body cannot be made reflective the way the appendages (head, tail, hands, etc.) ban be made: this is merely because they humanoid model used as secondlife's base is in severe need of updating to allow for the newer tricks.
Two, the neck, while done cleverly with primitives to look like rippling muscle, sometimes looks like it is out of socket in extreme movements. this is due to the fact, again, that the out of date humanoid model has no control point for the neck joint. Ill actually make a sculpty neck once this problem is resolved.
... other than that, I think its beautiful, and quite frankly, its superior to any other cetacean I've seen on secondlife.
Lastly, if anyone wants to see other pictures of this in specific angles or poses, let me know. I wanted to keep this one simple.
I will be selling this once all workable bugs are out of it (anything within secondlife's current programming standards, because quite frankly, I'm an artist, not a programmer) I will also be making other avatars in the future.
I hope you all Like this creature as much as I do:)

Well, professionally done AV's are usually around 1000 linden (about 5 dollars currently I believe) these include bells and whistles like custom poses (like mine would be able to spout water for example, and sway its tail, etc.) Until I can work with my friends to compile such scripts, consider this "Orca V1.0" it works perfectly well, but has no extras. "Orca V2.0" will likely have such things as my experience builds, and will also be more expensive.
Okay, Long story short: The price I'm running for this AV will be 750 linden. its as pretty as a professional av, making it worth 1000, but it lacks "extras" so its down to 750. I think thats more than fair for the 6 to 7 hours a day over the last week I spent working on it;)

Sadly, I won't be making custom AV's any time soon. the level of work involved means I'd have to increase the price dramatically. I will be making a dragon AV some time in the future however, as well as other well known creatures. once my experience is developed enough that I can churn these things out fast, I'll definately consider it.
*laughs* "naughty" art hmm? orca bits are liable to be one of those "extras" that I mentioned. It will be modeled soon enough, along with the open mouth pose, and multiple hand and tail poses.
Once its complete, I can probably pose the orca in a kinky setting and make a snapshot or two. However, these will go in scraps, because I don't want to flood my art archive with what is essentially old content.
And thank you:)

*Nods* yup, the nails got mangled in the translation. in fact, alot of smaller details got mangled: the creases in the fingers, both with the knuckles, cuticles, clawtips... I put lots of detail into them: the lossy translation from the sculpt prim smoothed all that out, reducing them to shapless sausages. The hands are probably the thing I'm least happy with at this point: might try a remake in the future. more of a translation error than a lack of detail though.
Actually, you might have some trouble getting one at this immediate instant: you picked just the wrong time I'm afraid. There is personal turmoil going on between the one who did the programming (scripting), and the one who is handling the vendors for it... and apparently, my orca av is an unfortunate hostage: from what I can tell, there is a dispute on who has the rights to it.
This is speculative however... Like I said, you picked *just* the wrong time to show interest, as I'm still investigating to find out what happened between these two key individuals, and what should be done in the best interest in both.
Seems kind of crazy for a simple Avatar, eh? this is why I'll never get into business methinks... too cutthroat... even worse when personal feelings are involved between parties.
Anyway, you'll have to wait a while. once I know the fate of this model data, I'll update you on the matter.

Wow, you play secondlife and make avatars?
The most I was able to do is make a hand-held lanturn that actually works and produces light (the one given away by Linden sucked). I also was making a talking block but it was taking a long time to work. Haven't played SL in awhile.
I noticed I FAV'ed two older arts of yours, both colored and incredible (your fursona and an wasp I think).
I should FAV this, and probably watch you too!
