Before I say this let me re-iterate. Im not saying its bad. I don't see anything wrong with this.
If you were going for a "globe" effect. as in the tiger/ect is in a ball or sphere, You could take the same size circle you had for the sphere and just "dot" over it but have it only half way up, if not a bit more to show a distance that it pokes out. then have the dot a mild translucent. i would recommend checking out a 44.1% translucency.
