It's tuesday, and the city's dark, as dark as it's ever been, in spite of the storm and lightning, but I was in a dark mood, too. Today's the third anniversary of the disaster that left me out of a job, and my partner Jimmy six feet under. The pitter-patter of rain off the windows of my office were gunshots, piercing the calm of my thoughts and rattling around in my head like so many bullet fragments. Then a dame all done up in red walks through my door. She's got a job for me, but it's a dirty job, and it has to be done yesterday. I always did hate Tuesdays.
