Finally done with this one. I did an inked version a while ago, but, realized there were too many problems with the line-work that I had, so I had been paying around with some new brushes in SAI, and then, well, distracted myself with other pieces I felt like working on...
So, here's Roswell. He received a blessing from the god Camazotz for unkown reasons, and well, now he's able to turn into a human-bat hybrid with a really nasty tail. Granted, he's friendly, but still, that thing can take an eye out... or... well viscera if provoked enough...
Hope you like, nad would love to hear your thoughts.

EDIT: He's got abs now...

oooo wow... dead sexy... you seldom see well done were-bats around (my generic term for anything/anyone that can transform into something animal-like... I'd call certain bat-like vampires were-bats;) )
The things that stand out to me are the formation of the fur and wings...I'm a mite twisted, so I can actually imagine the "pleasure trail" of fur pushing up out of his boxers as he transforms, and after your rant about his abs, I'm actually imagining them pushing out and developing from the bottom row of abs upward as the growing fur reaches them.
but the chest ruff and arm and shoulder fur... its all well done: it looks coarse and thick... fur, or rather, heavy hide like... without seeming spiky or wirey. The wings are well done as well... the digits twist around in a believable way, and you seldom see people brave enough to twist the wing backwards like that to make efficient use of the hands, even though such wings are often quite flexible... the formation of the folds of webbing under his lowered right arm are tricky to handle, and you did them quite well.
If I had any sort of gripe, the only thing that struck me as off was his foot... the toes looked a slight bit too uniform in length and position, and create the illusion of being flat... I imagine that is simply because all three toes are indeed the same overall length and shape, and at that angle just face the viewer/camera at just the right angle to look a bit *too* symmetrical... Keeping in mind that it can actually just be a trick of perception, however, I believe that the foot is shaped fine.
One last thing though that caught my eye in your comments though... Camazotz? Olmec or Aztec god? My best friend has a thing for those old jungle cultures, and in her "universe" Camazotz is sort of a black sheep in the Pantheon... A blustering trickster who usually botches things and, as his "Terrifyingly Glorious Aspect" is a common fruit bat, he tends to be rather indignant, and ends up covering for mistakes more often than committing devious acts.
anyway, for quality and whatnot, this is probably one of my favorite bat transformations, if not *The* favorite. Thank you for a gorgeous creature... I have to say I'm a little jealous of him and his blessing;)

Wow, thank you so much for the commentary. Looking at his foot, I definitely agree with you that it looks a bit off, but when I was laying out the design, the weight and angle of the leg was messing with it too, and unfortunately I couldn't come up with a better look for it.
The transition from the sketch to the inking was basically the realization that there were numerous tweaks to the anatomy which needed to be made, a lot of them minor, but some, like the wing folds and tail segmenting, needed to be re-plotted on a layer just to make sure it all looked right. This picture I started inking months ago, and took breaks from it since there were things which needed changes.
I think I wanted the transition of the fur growth and stuff to actually look, transitory, as in more is growing in, but not all at the same pace and stuff. Ros is one of my favorite character designs I have worked on over the years, and I took extra time doing a finer line inks than some of the other pieces I have drawn. I thought he deserved it. =3
As for Camazotz, they are Mayan. A god of night, death and sacrifice in some legends. The Camazotz in the setting the idea stems from actually has a few other interests, and has something in mind for Roswell to do (nothing Roswell would be opposed to).
And lastly, your comment at the end about it being one of your fvorite bat tf's and the overall feedback I really appreciate it, definitely validating.
