A short story in the style of a children's fable.
edit: well, actually, it's so short I will paste it here too, so no one needs to download and open a word doc.

It was springtime in the forest. In a nest up in a tree, a pair of birds were raising their young chick. They nurtured the baby bird and fed it munched-up nuts and insects and whatever else they found.
One day, while the parents were out, a heavy rainstorm came through. The nest kept the baby bird safe from the weather. However, a flapping shadow suddenly appeared outside the nest.
"Little bird," cried the butterfly, "the wind is really strong and the rain is falling hard. May I stay with you until the storm passes?"
The little bird agreed.
"Thank you very much. You are most kind."
The butterfly told the baby bird about flowers and fruits and other butterfly things. When the storm had passed, the butterfly thanked the bird again and left.
Soon summer arrived. The forest was lush and green. The baby bird was all grown up. Flying through the forest one day, looking for food, it spotted something fluttering among the branches. The bird gave chase and was nearly upon it when he saw that it was the butterfly.
"Oh, butterfly, I do not want to eat you, but I am hungry so,"
"Do not be worried," came the reply, "It is summertime; and there are plenty of tasty fruits and sweet flowers in this forest."
"That sounds very delicious. Could you show me where to find them?" asked the bird.
"Why, certainly -- just follow me!"
And they flew off together, shared many delightful meals, and remained good friends.
