Been working away on a lot of illos for a couple upcoming books/collections. My good friend Will Sanborn is writer GOH at the upcoming Midwest Furfest and he's publishing a couple collections of his short stores and a novel. Been doing lots of grey scale images for them and today I finished up the wrap around cover for the novel, "Old Time Religon". It's a real fun story and it's been a lot of fun to work on. Without giving too much away it takes place in modern times and Our hero gets involved with a number of ancient Gods who are still walking among mortals. For some reason I thoroughly enjoyed painting Anubis in modern clothes:
"Old Time Religon" will be available for sale at MWFF and also on line. You can check out Will's web site or his storefront at Lulu when it becomes available. It's not out yet, I've still got a stack of interior illoes to do. But I'll be sure to let you all know when it's hot off the presses!

You're quite welcome. That's one of my favorites of my older stories.
I didn't have time to get an adult story anthology out for MFF, though "That Old Time Religion" does have some romance and sex in it, with some dragon love. Also, I'm planning on getting an adult story collection out next year with old favorites and new tales in it too.

If you're not at MFF where I'll be debuting the books, you can order "That Old Time Religion" from my storefront at Lulu, the company I'm printing them through:

Plus, I'll be advertising them through my journal here on FA. The adult anthology will probably be out sometime in the middle of 2008, depending on when I can get all the artwork done for it.

When I first saw this picture my reaction was " Anubis in Levis?, what the hell? " Until reading the accompanying description detailing the reasoning behind this very good rendering. The background has a nice distant feeling to it.
An interesting concept about the story containing ancient gods in our time. My guess is that they would be fascinated by our technological advances over time. But very disappointed in seeing humanity''s inability to get along since first contact missions with our species millenia ago.
One things for sure if Anubis was indeed walking around in our time I would love to see what he'd look like in cut offs and a tank top... woot! ( I think I might draw that now that you made me think of it. )
Good stuff.

I'm probably going to catch a lot of flak for this, but... it looks like the two humans are taking a pee off the back of the mountain. Don't get me wrong, the picture is very technically well-done and the ancient gods are very convincing... but the humans feel so similar in pose and location that it reminds me of the stalls in mens restrooms.
hm, after seeing you draw so many pics of Anubis and his avatars in both genders, putting him into modern day clothing must have been like a home-run to you.
now that HappyFunBall mentions it, the humans do look like they... nevermind. :)
it's interesting. dragoness is happy and enjoying the landscape, Ibis seems indifferent, and Anubis looks... melancholic? depressed? maybe after judging the dead for millenias he sees death everywhere?

Putting famous characters into common-everyday-clothes or situations can be a lot of fun. Forces one to wonder, "What would they be like when they are not up on their usual pedestals to be worshipped?" Would Anubis like carbonated soft drinks, and if so, which would be his favorite. Would Amon-Ra go to the beach to work on his tan? Would he strut around in a Speedo, or “hang ten” on a boogie board?
I can see where the fun in such a story would be. And what a great title, considering the characters involved.

Yes, that's Thoth. They're somewhat of a couple, since he and Anubis were paired working together in the mythology. Him being the god of magic comes into play here as well. The dragoness, Ishandra, is a goddess of an old and forgotten religion, who also has some magical affinity.
