Description: Fowllowing the tread of my last, song, I've been primarily focusing on making some solid battle themes since I haven't worrked on any since I started this project. They seem to be particularly hard for me and I've been doing in-depth listening and researching what makes a good battle theme tick and the elements that go into making one. This particular melody came ot me while I was in the middle of playing Megaman and Bass, especially the care to detail in making an active bassline, you should definitely check out that game's soundtrack if your a fan of well composed bass lines (and just great music). As this was coming along I came to treat this as a song that comes up in a couple boss battles, possibly the first couple ones in the game.

Yeah, I don't know how to exactly word it even though I've studied music theory but I wanted to capture an old school hyper battle theme you'd hear in a early SNES or PSX game. I'm not sure what it was about their style or chord progression but it has such an epic feeling to it that is so influential to me <3
Hmmm...I'm trying to understand what you mean by emphasizing an older style. I know I added alot
of hi-hat action and some hyper drum fills that aren't really common with older game music. The main difference I can hear is I guess my drum beat is alot more hyper and in your face while older drum beats in games usuallly just kept beat with minor fills to let the melodies and chords shine. I actually had a more toned down drum line in a earlier draft but decided in the last 1/4 of the song to try something more hyper and crazy/complex. I'm sorry it didn't gel over smooth for you but I'm glad you still enjoyed the song and faved it :)
(Also I notice older boss battles loved to replace rock drum sets with orchestral timpani. Maybe for a more epic effect?)

Oh, no, it's a minor thing, I still like your theme.
Music is my absolute worst field of knowledge, most unfortunately. It's one of those things where I know what I like, but I can't put it in words.
Since I can't put what I'm thinking of in words, I'll show it. This theme takes the percussion thing I'm thinking about, and goes wild with it, from time 4:33-5:25:

When I died in that boss battle, I totally didn't mind, 'cause I'd get to hear that music again. Romancing SaGa rocks! But I can't find a translation to play 2 again! XP

It's cool dude, when we usually describe things, we use tangible details so when it's something as music, it's hard to describe in words.
Well I listened (and amazing battle music btw) and the drum work between 4:33-5:25 was really impressive. The composer let the drum pause at moments nd really incorporated some great tom tom and cymbal fills. Something I'll definitely aspire to do alas I'm just a amateur and not a pro like that guy obviously is

Battle themes are fun but yeah, they don't pop up in my mind alot. I had to really sit down and work on this track unlike more slow paced, dramatic pieces which I'm apparently full of >->
Great to hear from a fellow composer, it's cool how only changing a few notes from each chord can make it full of tensiony (I'll accept it, I blame Joss Whedon, he started adding "y" to any word xD)
Thank you so much!
