I remember reading that short story with Ssissthra or whatever his name was, and loving it to death. (Later I discovered Housepets! and was blown away by your creativity when I realized you were the guy that did both.) I can't wait to read this story when it's finished! I'd definitely try and buy the book if I could!
Reminds me of "The Race" in World War, In The Balance, by Harry Turtledove.
