Backing track by Ameritz Karaoke Club and purchased on iTunes. Original song by Elton John.
Birch discusses his early childhood with his therapist.
Has it been a year, already? Wow... I am still somewhat taken aback by the happy coincidence of this song, because I did not have to change a single word of it, and it fits Birch's situation perfectly. The fact that Birch and Dan were separated by ten years (I had to do a timeline to find that out) made for a good plot point, so I used it. I had to spend a good amount of time fleshing out not only Birch's past, but also Dan and their parents in order to get this right.

I'll be honest. Sometimes the song shapes the story, sometimes the story shapes the song.
By that I mean when I select a song, it often suggests a story line. Sometimes, though,i get an idea for a story development and search for a song to go with it.
When I run dry of story ideas, I go through previous recorded songs without stories to see if the spark ideas.
